Previous Employment History
April 1998 - September 2001. Senior Analyst Programmer, Northgate Information Solutions
I was responsible for Analysis of Customer requirements and documentation of those requirements in the form of Functional, Physical and Test Specifications. I was also responsible for the creation of new software and the amendment of existing software to fulfil customer requirements as detailed in specifications. The applications I worked with were concerned with maintenance of Electronic Patient Records for a number of Hospitals and Health authorities across the country. These were primarily intranet-based, ASP applications, written in HTML, Javascript, VBScript and Visual Basic V6 using Object Oriented Methodologies.
In addition to this, I was one of three members of the Web Design working team, responsible for designing the 'look and feel' of all the web-based applications, ensuring that they were both easy to use and attractive.
March 1995 - April 1998. Computer Operations Manager, GPT Payphone Systems
I was chiefly responsible for the continued operation of the UNIX system running the Manufacturing, Financial and Commercial database (Motorola UNIX v4.0 with MDIS Reality X V5.0). My duties included the evaluation/recommendation of new software, advising the IT executive on technological issues and assisting in the determination of future IT strategies. On a day-to-day level, I was also responsible for System and Database administration, technical support and liaising with our main system vendor (MDIS). This was a highly responsible position as the systems needed to have a high availability to support manufacturing operations across three different sites, often on a 24 hour basis.
During this time I was responsible for the planning and implementation of major projects, such as hardware and operating system migrations and upgrades, and the integration of off-the-shelf packages with GPT's in-house software, particularly the ETS EDI package from SAA. For this last role, I project managed the implementation of the software package, replacing an earlier in-house package, and I lead a development team of three people, working to integrate the new software into our in-house systems
October 1993 - March 1995. Technical Support Analyst, GPT Telecoms Switching Group
In this position, I was chiefly responsible for technical support and System/Database Administration on UNIX SVR3 systems running Reality X 3.1 databases. I was also responsible for migration from proprietary MDIS Reality systems to UNIX based platforms, evaluating the database operating system, planning the migration and implementing the new systems. I was on 24 hour call out in the event of system problems or crashes.
January 1991 - October 1993 Principal Analyst Programmer, GPT Telecoms Switching Group
During this time, I was an Analyst/Programmer on McDonnell Douglas Reality systems, maintaining and developing applications written in Data/Basic and RPL. The applications were all directly related to GPT's manufacturing business, including Purchasing, Warehousing, Shipping and EDI ordering (EDIFACT standard). I was also involved with the testing of and migration to Reality version 7 from version 6.
July 1988 - January 1991 Programmer/Operator, GPT Telecoms Switching Group
In this role, my duties were divided between programming and analysis and Operations work, working a three week shift pattern.
